Ogun State Government Takes Stringent Action Against Violations: Shuts Down Four Hospitals and Two Laboratories

In a determined move to enforce regulatory compliance, Ogun State seals multiple healthcare facilities for infractions, emphasizing the importance of adhering to established medical regulations.

In a recent crackdown on non-compliance with regulatory laws, the Ogun State Government has closed down four hospitals and two medical laboratories. The enforcement action, carried out by the “Operation Stingray” special task force, targeted facilities in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.

The affected establishments include Ololade Clinic and Maternity Home in Iyana Ilogbo, Mercygate Hospital in Itele, Fehintola Clinic and Maternity Home in Ijako, Ayomide Outpatient Hospital in Itele, Diurnal Medical Laboratory in Itele, and Blizz Medical Laboratory in Abeokuta.

The infractions leading to the closures varied, encompassing issues such as lack of registration, employment of unqualified personnel, operating beyond the specified scope, and negligence. The state government’s decisive action underscores its commitment to upholding regulatory standards in the medical sector.

Dr. Tomi Coker, the Commissioner for Health in Ogun State, addressed the media after the enforcement exercise, emphasizing that Governor Dapo Abiodun is resolute in purging the state of fake medical practitioners and ensuring strict adherence to established regulations. Coker highlighted that the crackdown is part of the government’s broader effort to sanitize medical practice and protect the well-being of residents.

Coker stated, “Our administration has continued to prioritize the social well-being of residents through the strengthening of our health systems and provision of accessible and qualitative healthcare. We acknowledge the efforts of private health facilities, but they must operate within the terms of our regulations.”

“All healthcare facilities in the state are required to register with the agency before commencing operations, and existing ones must renew their registration annually. The state will no longer tolerate facilities operating beyond the scope of their registration or employing unqualified personnel,” she added.

The enforcement signals a shift from the norm, as the state government underscores its commitment to ensuring that healthcare facilities operate in strict compliance with regulations, safeguarding the lives and well-being of the residents.
