Enugu Doctor Escapes Abductors, Reunites with Family

In a daring escape, Dr. Orockarrah Orock, a resident doctor at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) in Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu State, managed to break free from his captors, bringing relief and joy to his family and colleagues.

Dr. Orock, who works in the Anaesthesia Department, had been abducted on a fateful Saturday night while on duty within the hospital premises. The incident sent shockwaves through the community, as concerns for his safety mounted.

The doctor’s abduction occurred as he was leaving the hospital to purchase food, given that food vendors had ceased deliveries to the hospital due to unpaid bills.

Reports revealed that the kidnappers, disguised and lurking near the Catholic chapel within the hospital, seized the opportunity when Dr. Orock, who was on call, exited the hospital gates in his Toyota SUV. They pursued him, eventually forcing him to halt and then abducting him.

Uchelue Boniface, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, later confirmed Dr. Orock’s miraculous escape. The doctor managed to flee from his captors near Four Corners, situated along the Enugu-Port Harcourt highway, where he encountered vigilant security operatives.

Boniface expressed gratitude for Dr. Orock’s safe return, remarking that the hospital staff had fervently prayed for his rescue.

Prior to Dr. Orock’s escape, the hospital management had issued a statement notifying the staff about his abduction and had called for their support to maintain the hospital’s operational efficiency during his absence.

Dr. Chinazom Ekwueme, President of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), shared the good news, celebrating Dr. Orock’s safety and his reunion with his family. However, Ekwueme also emphasized the ongoing security challenges faced by medical professionals, asserting the need for continued cooperation with security agencies to bring the abductors to justice.

Dr. Orock’s escape from his abductors serves as a testament to the resilience and determination of those who tirelessly work in the healthcare sector, even in the face of such perilous situations.
