LASUTH Enhances Critical Care Capabilities with State-of-the-Art Equipment

The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has taken a significant step in advancing its healthcare offerings by unveiling a modern Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a set of cutting-edge operating equipment. The prestigious announcement came to light during a formal commissioning ceremony attended by healthcare professionals, dignitaries, and stakeholders.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, underscored the pivotal role these new facilities would play in meeting the burgeoning demand for intensive care services in Lagos State. Prof. Fabamwo revealed that the hospital’s proactive response to the rising need for critical care is underpinned by the acquisition of five state-of-the-art ventilators, four advanced cardiac monitors, and the establishment of four fully-equipped theatre spaces. These additions will bolster LASUTH’s ability to provide top-tier care to patients requiring surgical interventions.

Prof. Fabamwo emphasized the pressing need for expanded ICU capacity, as the hospital routinely receives a steady influx of patients from Lagos and its environs who require intensive care. He stated, “There is an increasing load of ICUs requiring patients in Lagos and environs, the demand for ICU beds keeps increasing. There’s hardly a day in LASUTH, without a case or two referred for ICU care. This concern is what has made the management of LASUTH, think it pertinent to expand the operating capabilities of the hospital, knowing fully well that the newly commissioned theatre suite complex will attract a rising number of surgical cases.”

The significant additions include the procurement of five brand-new ventilators and four state-of-the-art cardiac monitors. Furthermore, LASUTH has expanded its theatre capacity with four theatre spaces, each equipped with cutting-edge anesthetic machines. This strategic move is poised to elevate LASUTH’s status as a healthcare center of excellence and alleviate the strain on the existing infrastructure, ensuring patients receive the critical care they deserve.

Adding to the commendations, Adebowale Adekoya, Director of Clinical Services and Training at LASUTH, praised the unwavering commitment of Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to enhance healthcare facilities across the state. He highlighted healthcare as one of the cornerstones of the THEMES (Traffic Management and Transportation; Health and Environment; Education and Technology; Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy; Entertainment and Tourism; Security and Governance) agenda of the Governor, reinforcing the administration’s dedication to accessible and affordable healthcare at all levels, from primary to tertiary.
